As the world went into lockdown and the masses turned to communicate via video calls, Nick Knight took on the challenge of creating a fashion story over the video conferencing platform Zoom. Joined by models of the moment Bella Hadid, Fran Summers, Anok Yai, Jill Kortleve, Ugbad Abdi, Xiao Wen Ju, Abby Champion and Lulu Tenney - who all wear standout gowns from the A/W 20 season - Knight once again changes the face of fashion image-making.
Captured on their laptops, the models were directed throughout by a dream team including stylist Kate Phelan, make-up artist Val Garland and hairstylist Sam McKnight who all worked their magic from afar. In a series of stills taken for British Vogue's August 2020 issue, fantastical creations by Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Molly Goddard, Fendi and more are brought to life.
In an exclusive film made for SHOWstudio, the process behind navigating the shoot is revealed, from the models receiving boxes containing their chosen looks, to being directed by the team in their living rooms, gardens and bedrooms as they create a modern fashion story from home.

'For Margiela, the co-ed is artistic industrialisation of the artisanal. We would like to show how the artisanal could influence the ready-to-wear, how it can inspire us and the industrialisation of fashion’ John Galliano
John Galliano, Nick Knight and SHOWstudio continue their creative partnership, revealing the Maison Margiela S/S 21 co-ed collection. S.W.A.L.K first began with the opening up of the Margiela Atelier, following the creation of the A/W 20 artisanal collection. This second chapter revives a distant memory of tango dancers in Buenos Aires, whilst realising a bewitching proposal for the marriage of Maison's artisanal and ready-to-wear lines via a fashion film cum documentary and a series of stills.

'The idea of creating a blueprint for a way of presenting the collection and the work that goes into it in a new way, a very transparent way, became really appealing…to enforce everything that we believe in at Maison Margiela. I thought this would be a really fantastic moment to illustrate this, and then of course I thought of you [Nick Knight] .’ John Galliano
After mourning the loss of the fashion show as we know it due to the confines of lockdown, John Galliano saw an opportunity to capture the creative process and enforce the core values of Maison Margiela. He called upon long term collaborators Nick Knight and SHOWstudio to realise a new proposal for the Maison.
S.W.A.L.K. opens the doors of the Margiela Atelier like never before in a fashion film cum documentary, via a myriad of film and surveillance techniques such as GoPro’s on the heads of the petite mains and drones flying into the studio. First released through a series of video teasers, the process documentary features Knight's signature image manipulation and brings in such disparate references as the 80s club scene Blitz Kids, the veiled marble statues of the 1800s, and mysterious happenings in the Margiela Maison.
Three teasers were released to offer a glimpse into the multimedia exploration showcasing the craftsmanship of the Margiela Atelier and a new proposal for the Maison

A visual dialogue between creative director John Galliano and photographer Nick Knight, the work draws on the philosophies established at the house of Margiela through recent collections; defining a new era of modern decadence, invoking new illustrative and illusionary codes.
Employing the techniques developed by Galliano in his Artisanal collections for the house and featuring Duckie Thot, the film is released in both a standard version and 360-degree vision, allowing the viewer to move freely through the image with just a click of a mouse. Transforming science fiction into science reality, crafting a real – yet unreal – physicality for the viewer.
SHOWstudio and Maison Margiela present Reality Inverse, an innovative, short fashion film showcased at the Serpentine Gallery, London.
Nick Knight is joined by SHOWstudio's Head of Fashion Film, Raquel Couceiro, and Junior Film Editor, Myles Hall to unpick the technical details of 360 fashion film Reality Inverse. In SHOWtech, Knight, Couceiro and Hall discuss the trials and tribulations of shooting a film both in negative and in 360-degree format. They reflect on Duckie Thot's role in the project, and ponder the film's soundtrack by Jeremy Healy which is both surreal and familiar, sampling Roy Orbison's Put Your Head On My Shoulder. The 360 films showed at Knight's favourite London gallery, the Serpentine, where it could be viewed with VR headsets provided by Oculus.

‘A torus is an infinite shape in which all parts are connected…If we can see and imagine ourselves in this universal entity, we can be both separate and connected with everything else.’ Fredrik Tjærandsen
Fredrik Tjærandsen's wearable bubbles offer up meditations on human connection and loneliness in this love story of sorts, directed by Nick Knight and filmed by Knight, Britt Lloyd and Raquel Couceiro with choreography by Wayne McGregor. Dancers orbit in darkness as isolated entities, occasionally lit as they transition through a temporal universe, a mirror to the life that many are only passing through, barely connecting.
Drawing on the formation of identity via childhood memories in his designs, Tjærandsen encourages both viewer and wearer to understand the world through alternate perspectives, whilst offering a metaphor for how we might find alternate ways to connect with one another even in the most isolated of times.
Physical connection is impossible, yet craved nevertheless. What does emotional closeness look like, in a world without touch?

Beats collaborate with Nick Knight and SHOWstudio to present The Seven Deadly Sins of Edward Enninful, a film honouring 25 years of fashion by the acclaimed stylist. Featuring seven sins, seven colours, seven sounds and eight top models - naturally, gluttony demanded two - the film is a celebration of both Enninful’s illustrious career and the interplay between fashion and music. It stars Mariacarla Boscono, Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, Karen Elson, Anna Ewers, Karlie Kloss, Kate Moss and Lara Stone in clothing selected by Enninful.
A range of designers is featured, from established labels such as Celine, Maison Margiela, Alexander McQueen, Prada and Yohji Yamamoto to emerging talents such as Marques Almeida and Vetements.
The soundtrack has been hand-selected by Beats and encompasses artists who represent the future of music. Featured songs are Bury Me by Brodinski ft. Maluca & Bricc Baby Shitro, New Level by A$AP Ferg [ft. Future], Sticky Drama by Oneohtrix Point Never, Gosh by Jamie XX, Have Mercy by Eryn Allen Kane, Girl by The Internet [ft. Kaytranada] and Bout the Business by Hopsin. The work also features a narration by Travis Scott.
On 29 January 2016, the film was released on the ultimate big screen - the Beats billboard in Times Square, New York.

In 1982, Nick Knight’s debut publication, Skinhead, launched his photographic career. This now-iconic document presents a vision of Skinhead culture in the eighties as seen by Knight's unflinching lens. This series contextualises Knight's artistic trajectory and has inspired and influenced his work to come.
Skipping forward to 2017, British Vogue hired Knight's longtime collaborator Edward Enninful as their new Editor-in-Chief - a move hailed by the industry as the coming of a 'New Vogue'. For his debut work in Enninful's new Vogue, Knight looked back to the subculture that first inspired him, shooting three models who embody a modern take on the spirit and scene of Skinheads.
Presented exclusively on SHOWstudio, Brighton Sorts is a fashion film, shot by Britt Lloyd, edited by Raquel Couceiro. Filmed during Knight's shoot for April's British Vogue, Brighton Sorts stars Adwoa Aboah, Jazzelle Zanaughtti and Lina Hoss.

A never-before-seen fashion film of Gigi Hadid and Fei Fei Sun, captured by Nick Knight in 2019. Both models are caught as if somewhere between outer space and the beaming lights of a city skyline, feeling future-driven and timeless simultaneously, and wearing Chanel couture from the last collection created by the late Karl Lagerfeld, as well as from Armani Privé, Iris van Herpen, Christian Dior, Maison Margiela, Givenchy and Valentino.
Bellow, there is also a high-voltage marker of Vogue Hong Kong's inaugural issue, this trailer teases the fashion film accompanying Nick Knight's cover story. Paying tribute to the future-driven artistic and cultural hub that is Hong Kong, Gigi Hadid and Fei Fei Sun are caught as if by the beaming lights of the city skyline.

Model and artist Tessa Kuragi joins forces with Nick Knight to create a fashion film and a series of provocative imagery, entitled Tessa. Conceptualised by Kuragi herself, the end product is the result of over a year and a half of creative brainstorms between Knight and Kuragi.
Hung, bound, gagged and caged in a series of extreme positions, Kuragi pushes her body to the limits in an exploration of her fetish and sexuality. Dan Hebberd, a shibari bondage artist Kuragi often visits in Japan, joined the shoot at Kuragi's request, guiding Kuragi in her exploration. The fashion film closes with Kuragi in the bondage master's embrace, recuperating from the intense session.

With high fashion and gaming traditionally separate from one another, SHOWstudio Head of Film Raquel Couceiro and film editor Myles Henrik Hall blur the boundaries in this fashion film. The pair identify the very real influence of popular media–be it comic books, role-player games, cult movies or dystopian fiction–on how we dress in the world, bringing to life nine of pop culture's most recognisable female characters in a combination of contemporary fashion, and clothing from specialist providers.
Follow Couceiro and Hall's lens as their iterations of an angelic character à la Final Fantasy's Lightning to their own version of DC Comics' Harley Quinn are presented in 'hero mode'. Which heroine will you be today?

Following the success of the Spring 2019 Burberry campaign, Riccardo Tisci called upon Nick Knight to capture Burberry's first monogram collection - The Thomas Burberry Monogram collection. Riccardo Tisci, under his appointment at Burberry as Creative Director in 2018, called upon a selection of photographers to interpret his new look for the heritage brand. SHOWstudio's Nick Knight was chosen to capture Tisci's debut collection, named Kingdom.
Directed by Nick Knight, this fashion film is a continuation of the campaign, looking to the aesthetic of the 'lady'; who she is; how she dresses herself; the art she collects. Set in an elegant apartment in Barcelona, furnished with Jenny Saville artworks, the film personifies the essence of the Burberry woman.
Filmed by Knight’s long time collaborator Britt Lloyd and edited by SHOWstudio’s Head of Fashion Film, Raquel Couceiro, this film captures the signature Burberry tropes - the Nova check, beige tones and mackintosh trench coats – as well as the newer aspects such as graphic designer Peter Saville’s logo rebrand.

For the presentation of Alyx's A/W 16 collection, Nick Knight and Matthew Williams explore the chaos inherent in nature. Shooting the catalogue imagery and fashion film in a deep wood, Knight juxtaposes seasons by placing images shot in the summer in the same location the winter. This layering of imagery within imagery adds to the sense of discordance mirrored by the placing of Williams’ distinctly urbane designs in a rural background.
In a fashion film edited by SHOWstudio's Head of Fashion Film Raquel Couceiro, Knight's imagery and Williams' designs are set to motion with an original soundtrack from NOLIFE.
There is also a Catalogue film by Nick Knight, Matthew Williams and Paul Hetherington's printed catalogue for Alyx A/W 16 'Natural Order'
